LES MESSAGES CACHéS DE l’EAU(ceci n’est pas de l’eau)
In his work entitled « The Hidden Messages of Water, » Frédéric Bourret explores the complexity of perception through a meditation on reflection. He raises the intriguing question of the virginity of the gaze when encountering a new subject: can one truly approach something for the first time with a completely neutral vision?
The artist highlights the inherently subjective nature of our perception, influenced by our experiences, group affiliations, and culture. Through a subtle trap set for perception, Bourret exploits the repetition of the same subject at different times of the day. This approach aims to illustrate that the more the subject is repeated, the more our certainty about what we perceive increases.
Questions naturally arise: what type of reflection is it really? What reflective surface captures our attention? Is it truly water, a window, or even a facade? Could the reflection, according to the artist, be a trompe-l’œil resulting from a skillfully orchestrated counter-view?
In this artistic exploration, Frédéric Bourret offers a unique vision, playing with different color harmonies to suggest the possibility of 21st-century cathedrals. By capturing these ephemeral moments through the prism of reflection, he invites the viewer to question their own perception and discover the unsuspected dimensions of the reality that surrounds them.
